Overview

Registered in 1980 by L. Simpers, this giant hosta cultivar resulted from a cross using *Hosta* 'Fountain' (listed as *H. sieboldiana longipes*) as the pod parent. 'Jade Point' is visually distinguished by its large, variegated leaves with jade green margins, reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in length and 9 inches (22.9 cm) in width, with 16 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Jade Point' forms a substantial clump 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in shaded to partially shaded borders. Its giant size pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its broad foliage. The scape height is recorded as 15 inches (38.1 cm), though some sources note variability.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this large-leaved cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
