Overview
Registered in 1981 by V. Sellers, 'Iron Gate Delight' is a small hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta plantaginea*. It is distinguished by medium green leaves with streaked margins, forming a compact mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it forms a dense clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its small size makes it an effective edging plant or companion to ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Iron Gate Delight' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
