Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Chinese Dragon Supreme', registered in 2011, 'Imperial Dragon' is a medium-sized, upright, variegated hosta. Its leaves emerge chartreuse-centered with a dark green margin, maturing to a light green center with a dark green edge that varies from 0.5 to 2 inches (1.3 to 5.1 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Imperial Dragon' reaches a mature height of 25 inches (63.5 cm) and spreads to 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its upright habit makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant. The broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and 10 vein pairs provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as the broad leaves are susceptible to damage.
