Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Ice Queen' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Dream Queen' and *H.* 'Ice Age Trail'. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins of variable width, combined with a glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
'Ice Queen' forms an upright clump reaching approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as a specimen in a woodland garden. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size also allows for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
