Overview

Registered in 1997, *Hosta* 'Humility' is a small, variegated sport of *Hosta* 'Hertha', distinguished by its dark green leaves with flat margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a very shiny underside. The tapered leaf base and moderate growth rate contribute to its compact, neat habit.

In the Garden

'Humility' reaches a mature diameter of 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), making it suitable for the front of a shaded border or as an edging plant. It thrives in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other small hostas. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed.
