Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Hope' is a miniature sport of *Hosta* 'Baby Bunting', distinguished by its medium green leaves with greenish-yellow margins. The cultivar forms a compact mound reaching 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height and 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in diameter, with leaves measuring 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, each bearing 4 to 5 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Hope' performs best in partial to full shade, where its moderate growth rate produces a tidy, mound-like habit. Its miniature stature makes it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it adapts readily to container cultivation. Companion plantings may include small ferns, *Heuchera* cultivars, or other miniature hostas that share similar light and moisture requirements.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Hope' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones, and protective measures may be necessary in high-pressure areas.
