Overview

Registered in 2014, 'Hoosier Hysteria' is a medium-sized hosta sport of a seedling, notable for its consistent blue-green leaf centers with creamy white margins. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 10 to 12 vein pairs and a slightly rippled, 0.5-inch (1.3 cm) wide creamy white edge. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the foliage exhibits light twisting, folding, waviness, and corrugation.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue center remains stable and the yellow edge remains modest. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a ground cover in shaded beds, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, applying fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for typical hosta-growing zones.
