Overview
Registered in 1994, *Hosta* 'Honey Do' is a miniature hybrid of *Hosta* 'Little Jim' (selfed). Its most distinctive feature is the yellow-gold leaf center framed by a narrow, medium green margin, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-margined hosta form. The leaves are small, smooth, and slightly shiny on both surfaces, with three vein pairs and a rounded base.
In the Garden
'Honey Do' reaches a mature clump diameter of 8 inches (20.3 cm) and a height of 5.25 inches (13.3 cm), with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to light shade, as is typical for gold-centered cultivars, which may scorch in full sun. Its miniature size makes it well suited for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border; it pairs naturally with other small hostas or fine-textured woodland perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Carex*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Honey Do' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
