H. ‘Hobby Time’

Overview

Registered in 2016, 'Hobby Time' is a large hosta resulting from a cross of two *H. 'Hercules'* × *H. 'Kinkaku'* seedlings. It is visually distinctive for its bright gold leaf margins that remain stable throughout the growing season, contrasting with a green leaf center.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach approximately 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. This size class suits placement as a specimen or in the middle to back of a mixed border. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with partial to full shade; the gold margins may fade in excessive sun. Companion plants with contrasting foliage colors, such as dark-leaved heucheras or ferns, provide effective visual contrast.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
