Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, 'Hime Tokudama' is a small, compact hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance derives from medium blue-green, ovate leaves with cordate bases, flat margins, and a moderate cupping with light twisting, forming a dense, mound-like clump.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or compact sedges that echo its low, mounded habit.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents.
