Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'June', 'High Society' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its intense blue-green leaf margins surrounding a pure white center. The broadly ovate leaves, each with 11 vein pairs, exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and a flat profile; the white center measures 1.5 to 1.75 inches (3.8 to 4.4 cm) wide, while the blue-green margin bleeds irregularly into the center, creating a narrow green transition zone.
In the Garden
Reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, 'High Society' forms a compact, slow-growing mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white center remains stable and the blue-green margins hold their color; in too much sun, the white may scorch. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as ferns or *Heuchera*, complement its low, tidy habit.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many small hostas, 'High Society' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection; deer will also browse the foliage.
