Overview
Registered in 1995, 'Herbie' is a miniature hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta venusta*. It is visually distinctive for its very small, dark green leaves edged with a narrow, pure white margin, combined with a notably shiny upper and lower leaf surface.
In the Garden
'Herbie' reaches a mature size of approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5.1 cm) in height, with an open, fast-growing habit. It is suitable for shaded or partially shaded sites in typical hosta-growing zones and is an excellent choice for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of a small border. Its diminutive scale pairs well with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or *Sedum* species.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The small, low-growing leaves may be susceptible to slug damage, and deer may browse the foliage.
