Overview
Registered in 2000, 'Helios' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Electrum Stater' that produces a medium-sized mound with distinctive variegated foliage. The leaves are light green with slightly rippled margins, exhibiting a very shiny surface on both the upper and lower sides, and feature a cordate base with nine pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Helios' forms a compact mound reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded rockeries.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
