Overview
Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Happy Birthday' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with soft chartreuse to gold margins. The foliage presents a muted, celery-toned green with variable, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the slightly thicker leaf texture may offer moderate deterrence.
