Overview
Registered in 2014 by J. Schwarz, this small hosta cultivar is distinguished by its nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves with dark green margins and a dull surface. The leaf blade is moderately cupped and deeply corrugated, with nine pairs of veins, giving the plant a compact, mounded form.
In the Garden
'Hannah' reaches a mature diameter of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), forming a dense, slow-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the heavily corrugated leaves of 'Hannah' may offer some resistance to slug damage.
