Overview
Registered in 1978 by Paul Aden, this medium-sized hosta cultivar arose from a cross between *H. 'Flamboyant'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Estelle Aden'* (pollen parent). *Hosta 'Halo'* is distinguished by its green leaves with light yellow-creamy white margins, a color pattern that gives the cultivar its name.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spread to 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, placing it in the medium size class. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for hostas, and produces lavender flowers on scapes reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height. The 8-inch (20.3 cm) long by 4-inch (10.2 cm) wide leaves with 12 vein pairs form a compact, rounded clump suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
