Overview
Registered in 2001 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Hadspen White' is a medium-sized variegated hosta derived from *Hosta sieboldiana* as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its upright, slow-growing habit, medium to light green leaves with slightly rippled margins, and notably tall white flower scapes that bloom late in the season.
In the Garden
'Hadspen White' reaches a mature spread of approximately 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), with upright foliage that provides good substance and a tidy form. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. The late bloom period and tall scapes make it a useful companion for earlier-flowering perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
