Overview

Registered in 1986 by R. O'Harra, 'Ground Sulphur' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its bright green leaves with deep yellow, heavily undulating margins. The foliage emerges chartreuse before maturing to a green center with a broad, irregular gold border, and the plant forms a compact, fast-growing mound.

In the Garden

'Ground Sulphur' reaches a mature diameter of 8 inches (20.3 cm) and a height of 5 inches (12.7 cm), making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small perennials such as miniature ferns or creeping sedums. Its miniature size also makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in garden settings.
