Overview
Registered in 1986 by T. Donahue and the American Hosta Society, Hosta 'Grey Piecrust' is a giant hybrid derived from H. 'Green Piecrust'. It is visually distinctive for its large, dark green leaves with small undulating margins and variegated coloration, forming a substantial mound.
In the Garden
This giant hosta reaches 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, making it a bold specimen for shaded borders or woodland gardens. It thrives in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size limits its suitability for containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
