Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Greensleeves' is a medium-sized sport of *H. 'Pin Stripe Sister'* that produces a compact mound of cordate leaves with creamy white centers and medium green, slightly rippled margins. The foliage is distinguished by its moderate size—leaves reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide—and its slightly glossy upper surface contrasting with a dull underside.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a symmetrical mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its green-and-white variegation brightens darker corners of the border. The 21- to 22-inch (53.3–55.9 cm) green scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer. Suitable companions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade perennials; its medium size makes it appropriate for the middle of a shaded bed or as an edging plant.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor foliage regularly and take protective measures if needed.
