Overview
A sport of an unidentified parent, registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Greenhead Charlie's Pride' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves with wide, greenish-yellow margins. The leaf blades are broadly ovate with cordate bases, moderately cupped and corrugated, with a dull surface above and below.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense mound reaching 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers retain their color and the gold margins remain bright. The heavy substance and wide edges make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size precludes container cultivation for most situations.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves provide moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions. Deer may browse young foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
