Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Kabitan' registered in 2003, 'Green Kabitan' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its lance-shaped leaves with medium green, heavily rippled margins and a dull upper surface. The leaf blades, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, display four to five vein pairs and a slightly shiny underside, with moderately wavy edges and a tapered base.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 44 inches (111.8 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), this mound-forming hosta is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its compact size and fast growth rate make it effective as a ground cover or edging plant, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials. The green scapes, which rise 26 to 33 inches (66.0 to 83.8 cm) above the foliage, support pale lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While generally low-maintenance, 'Green Kabitan' may require protection from slugs and deer in shaded, moist garden settings.
