Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei' registered with the American Hosta Society in 1986, 'Green Gold' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with creamy yellow margins. The leaf blades measure 8.75 inches (22.2 cm) long by 5.75 inches (14.6 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs, and the marginal variegation ranges from 0.12 to 0.5 inches (0.3 to 1.3 cm) in width.
In the Garden
'Green Gold' forms a clump 23 inches (58.4 cm) tall and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. The creamy yellow margins brighten with more light but may scorch in intense afternoon sun. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade perennials, and its medium size allows use in mixed container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage in damp conditions, though the thick leaves show moderate resistance; deer will browse the plant if other food sources are scarce.
