Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Green Blade' is a small-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Yellow Splash'. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its ovate leaves with solid green margins and a shiny upper surface, contrasting with a matte green underside; the leaf center is not variegated, giving the plant a clean, uniform green appearance.

In the Garden

'Hosta' Green Blade forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, with leaves holding their green color well in typical hosta-growing zones. Its small size makes it suitable for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs effectively with fine-textured ferns or small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and employ control measures as needed in the local environment.
