Overview
Registered in 2014 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Great Lakes Gold', 'Great Lakes Green' is a giant-sized cultivar distinguished by its large, broadly ovate leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a wavy texture. The leaves are dull on both surfaces and measure up to 34.3 cm long by 31.8 cm wide, with 18 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Great Lakes Green' forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 102 cm in diameter and 58 cm in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial foliage makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in woodland gardens. The green scapes, which can reach up to 102 cm, bear flowers typical of the genus but are not the primary ornamental feature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, this cultivar may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
