Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Grape Fizz' is a large, variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Rhapsody in Blue' (pod parent) and *Hosta plantaginea* (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its ovate, cordate-based leaves with light green, slightly rippled margins, a lightly twisted and moderately wavy form, and notably fragrant, purple-striped flowers.
In the Garden
'Grape Fizz' forms a mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it appropriate as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border; it is not suited for containers due to its dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
