Overview
Registered in 2001, 'Grandeur' is a giant hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'William Lachman' and *Hosta* 'Halcyon'. It is distinguished by its massive, nearly round leaves that are dark green with medium green, light green, yellow, and greenish-yellow streaking, bordered by slightly rippled gold margins; the leaf surface is very shiny above and slightly shiny beneath, with deep corrugation and moderate cupping.
In the Garden
'Grandeur' reaches a mature height of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a spread of 28 inches (71.1 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its substantial, textured foliage provides strong contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or astilbes. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and shaded borders.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer good slug resistance, though standard deer deterrents may be necessary in areas with high deer pressure.
