Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Gosan Gold Mist' is a small-sized cultivar derived from *H. rectifolia* and *H.* 'Ani Machi'. Its visual distinction lies in leaves that emerge golden yellow, then develop fine green streaks and irregular green patches against a yellow ground, all framed by dark green margins 0.75 to 1.25 inches wide.

In the Garden

This mound-forming plant reaches 12 inches in height and 24 inches in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial shade; while the yellow-and-green variegation holds well in sun, plants grown in deeper shade may revert to all-green foliage. Its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns or small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
