Overview
Registered in 1989, this miniature hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H. venusta* and *H.* 'Golden Prayers'. It forms a compact mound of small, glossy green leaves with bright yellow-green margins, reaching only 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Gosan Gold Midget' thrives in partial to dappled shade, where its diminutive size and slightly stoloniferous habit make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its small leaves—1.5 inches (3.8 cm) long and 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide—allow it to pair well with other miniature perennials such as *Saxifraga* or *Viola*. The cultivar is also an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its compact proportions can be appreciated at close range.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, this miniature is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small size may make it easier to protect with barriers or repellents.
