Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek through the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Goldfinger' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its narrow, lanceolate green leaves with golden yellow margins. The leaf blades, measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, display moderate waviness and a dull texture on both surfaces, with two to three pairs of veins.
In the Garden
With a mature mound-like habit reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, 'Goldfinger' is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its compact size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where the golden yellow leaf margins and scapes provide subtle contrast against darker foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other miniature hostas or small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly in shaded, moist locations.
