Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Goldfinch' is a miniature cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Little Wonder'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Chartreuse Wiggles'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its small, lance-shaped yellow leaves edged with a narrow, pure white margin, combined with a compact, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Goldfinch' forms a low mound 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its small size and bright yellow foliage make it suitable for the front of a border, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with other miniature hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage for signs of feeding.
