Overview
Registered in 2009 from a seedling of unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Golden Wampum' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and compact, mound-like habit. The leaf blade is ovate with a tapered base, moderately cupped and lightly twisted, measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long by 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, with three vein pairs and a slightly rippled, greenish-yellow to yellow margin.
In the Garden
'Golden Wampum' forms a dense mound 4 inches (10.2 cm) high and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It is suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation, and performs best in partial to full shade, typical of miniature hostas. Its small size and strong growth habit make it an effective edging plant or companion to other diminutive perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, though the cultivar is noted as very hardy.
