Overview

Registered in 1993, 'Golden Fountain' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar produced from a cross between *H.* 'Beatrice' and *H.* 'Green Fountain'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with heavily rippled, yellow-gold margins, combined with a dull upper surface and a very shiny underside.

In the Garden

'Golden Fountain' forms a clump approximately 31 inches (78.7 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall, with leaves reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in length and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in width. Its light green scape rises to 36 inches (91.4 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or mixed shade beds.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
