Overview

Registered in 1998 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Gold Regal', 'Golden Eagle' is a medium-sized cultivar notable for its broad, blue-green leaves with wide golden yellow margins. The leaf blade measures 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with margins reaching 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width, and both surfaces bear a glaucous bloom.

In the Garden

'Golden Eagle' forms a dense, slow-growing mound reaching 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest; excessive sun may scorch the leaf edges, while deep shade reduces marginal color intensity. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its medium size suits border middles or woodland garden placements.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advised, as both pests may damage the foliage.
