Overview
Registered in 1998 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Golden Circles' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams' distinguished by its large, blue-green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins. The leaf margins are flat and measure approximately 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, contrasting sharply with the dull, blue-green leaf centers.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height and 27.5 inches (69.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the gold margins remain brightest. The large, cordate leaves with 15 vein pairs provide substantial textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor for slug activity on the broad leaves, particularly in damp conditions.
