Overview

Registered in 1995 by S. & V. Wade, with H. & D. Benedict as registrants, this large hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict'. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with yellow-gold, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Gold Dorothy of Richland' forms a mound-like clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain most stable, and is suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its large, cordate leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may feed on the foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
