Overview
Registered in 1978 by P. Aden, this small hosta cultivar was produced from a cross between *H.* 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Golden Prayers' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with gold margins, a color pattern that contrasts with the solid or variegated forms of many contemporaries.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Gold Cup' reaches a mature size of 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, with a semi-upright growth habit. Its small stature and gold-margined leaves make it suitable for the front of a mixed border, rock garden, or container planting. It pairs well with fine-textured groundcovers such as *Lamium* or *Heuchera*, and performs best in partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed.
