Overview

Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Ginny' is a large cultivar derived from *H. 'Galaxy'* (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves that are blue-green with a broad, greenish-yellow margin, combined with an exceptionally shiny upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Ginny' forms a dense, slow-growing mound reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the leaf color and margin contrast are most pronounced. The large, thick leaves of heavy substance make it suitable for specimen planting in shaded borders or woodland gardens; its compact, rounded habit also suits it for the front of a mixed shade bed.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage; monitor and manage as needed for the region.
