Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Teacup', 'Gilded Teacup' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its deeply cupped, heavily corrugated leaves that present a sharp contrast between a medium green center and bright gold margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 6.75 inches (17.1 cm) wide, feature 11 to 13 vein pairs and a flat, 0.5-inch (1.3 cm) wide gold border.

In the Garden

This slow-growing, mound-forming plant reaches approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The thick leaf substance and cupped form also make it a candidate for container cultivation in shaded patio settings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so appropriate deterrents should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
