Overview
Registered in 2006, Hosta 'Get Nekkid' resulted from crossing *Hosta* 'Elvis Lives' (pod parent) with *Hosta yingeri* 'Treasure Island' (pollen parent). This small cultivar is distinguished by its exceptionally glossy foliage—both leaf surfaces are described as very shiny—and a pronounced floral display that follows the emergence of medium green, slightly rippled leaves.
In the Garden
Mature plants form a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) high and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter. The ovate leaves, 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide with 5 to 6 vein pairs, have moderately flat blades with tapered bases. Green scapes reach up to 40 inches (101.6 cm). This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its small stature suits front-of-border positions or container culture. Companion plants with contrasting leaf textures, such as ferns or heucheras, complement its glossy surface.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during active growth, particularly in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. The thick, glossy leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard hosta pest management remains advisable in damp conditions.
