Overview
Registered in 1999 by an unknown breeder, 'Genesee Splashing' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped green leaves with creamy white margins that are streaked into the blade. The plant forms a compact, slow-growing mound with a mature spread of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 5 inches (12.7 cm).
In the Garden
This diminutive hosta is well suited for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings, where its small scale and variegated foliage can be appreciated at close range. It performs best in partial to full shade and, given its miniature size and slow growth rate, is an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Pair with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella* for textural contrast.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
