Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Gazpacho' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from a cross between *H*. 'Sea Prize' (pod parent) and *H. hypoleuca* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins and an unusual, unstable pattern of light green streaking interspersed with streaks of dark green, greenish yellow, yellow, and golden yellow.

In the Garden

'Gazpacho' reaches a mature diameter of 29 inches (73.7 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), forming a dense, slow-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its heavy substance and deeply corrugated, puckered leaves provide substantial textural contrast. Companion plantings of ferns, astilbes, or heucheras complement its broad foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
