Overview

Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Gate Keeper' originated from open-pollinated seed of *Hosta* 'Jade Cascade'. This large cultivar is distinguished by its upright, moderate growth habit and long, variegated leaves with light to medium green, slightly rippled margins that are dull on both surfaces and lightly wavy.

In the Garden

'Gate Keeper' reaches a mature height of approximately 27 inches (68.6 cm) and a spread of 39 inches (99.1 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders and woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture. The upright scapes, reaching 36 to 38 inches (91.4 to 96.5 cm), bear large, star-shaped bud heads with flowers arranged verticillately around the stem, adding vertical interest.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
