Overview
Registered in 2004 as a seedling of *Hosta* 'Waterworks', 'Gadzooks' is a small, upright cultivar distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with pure white centers and medium green margins that occasionally exhibit white streaking. The leaf blades measure 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, with four vein pairs, flat margins, and a dull texture on both surfaces.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature clump diameter of 13 inches (33.0 cm) and height of 7.5 inches (19.1 cm), 'Gadzooks' is suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. Its upright habit and small size make it an effective accent among low-growing perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella* in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. The white-centered leaves provide strong contrast in shaded settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the tender white leaf centers.
