Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard' registered in 1996, 'G String' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its greenish-yellow to yellow-gold leaf centers bordered by wide, dark green, slightly rippled margins. The leaves are slightly shiny on both surfaces and have rounded bases, with eight to ten vein pairs per leaf.

In the Garden

'G String' forms a mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 39 inches (99.1 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. The grayish-brown scapes rise 20 to 36 inches (50.8 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
