Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gray Cole', 'Frozen Jacket' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its medium blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white margins. The leaf surface carries a glaucous bloom on both sides, and the foliage emerges with notably attractive spring coloration.
In the Garden
'Frozen Jacket' forms a substantial clump reaching approximately 32 inches (80 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its blue-green foliage with white margins provides strong contrast when planted near yellow- or gold-leaved cultivars or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns. The plant's large size makes it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed border in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Frozen Jacket' may be susceptible to slug damage and should be monitored in damp conditions.
