Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Franc's Trailer Jon' is a giant cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by its nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves with bright golden yellow margins and green centers. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with 13 to 14 pairs of veins per leaf.

In the Garden

This upright, fast-growing hosta reaches a mature spread of 45 inches (114.3 cm) and a height of 26 inches (66.0 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in larger shade gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size precludes container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
