Overview
Registered in 1980 by E. Minks, this giant hosta originated as a selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams'. It is visually distinguished by its large, green leaves with gold margins and slight yellow undulations along the leaf edges, a color pattern inherited from its parent.
In the Garden
'Frances Williams Baby' reaches a mature size of 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with leaves up to 18 inches (45.7 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and shaded borders.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the thick leaves may offer some deterrence; monitor for slug damage in damp conditions.
