Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Cherry Berry', 'Foxfire Rose Red' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its deep red scapes and leaves of creamy white with broad, dark green margins. The plant forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. The leaves are elliptic, flat, and slightly shiny on both surfaces, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with seven vein pairs and margins 1 to 1.25 inches (2.5 to 3.2 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited for border fronts, rock gardens, or woodland settings. Its small stature and compact habit make it an excellent candidate for container culture. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its white-and-green foliage and red scapes.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
