Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Fox Lake' is a medium-sized hosta of unknown parentage, distinguished by its variegated foliage: ovate leaves with light green, slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a very shiny underside. The leaf blade bears ten prominent vein pairs and exhibits moderate waviness, light folding, and light twisting, with a flat base and good substance.
In the Garden
'Fox Lake' forms an upright, moderate-growing mound reaching 20.5 inches (52.1 cm) in height and 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its light green, medium mound provides textural contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras, and its substantial leaves hold up well in mixed shade gardens. The green scape rises to 36 inches (91.4 cm), though flower height is not specified.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, especially in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as with other hostas.
